Mid-Century Modern Addition, Montclair, NJ

This project was a design exercise on how the existing 1970’s home could be expanded to meet the needs of our client’s growing family. A very steep site, set backs and height restrictions limited any addition to the rear of the property. The solution would be to renovate the existing home to take advantage of the views toward NYC with a “bridge” that linked to the 2 story addition. This preserved the character of the existing home, that our client loved, while taking advantage of a largely unused section of the property. The exercise proved that in the current market, it made more sense to sell the home and buy elsewhere.
